Attorneys

Attorney Shawanda Brown received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Howard University in 2000. There she was first introduced to the field of Criminal Justice while interning with the US Marshal Service. After graduation, she enrolled at Tulane University School of Law and later transferred to the University of Georgia School of Law. Attorney Brown received her Juris Doctor degree from UGA in 2003.

While enrolled in law school, Attorney Brown interned with the Barton Child Law and Policy Center at Emory University Law School. as an intern, she was assigned to work at the Troup County Juvenile Court under Judge Michael Keys. There she worked on cases ranging from juvenile child neglect and deprivation to juvenile delinquency. During law school, she also participated in UGA’s prosecutorial clinic. As a clinic participant, she worked in DeKalb County Solicitor’s Office under Georgia’s 3rd year Practice Act.

After law school, Attorney Brown began working for the City of Atlanta Public Defender’s Office. As an assistant public defender, she was assigned to work in the City of Atlanta Traffic Court. There she represented clients charged with traffic offenses ranging from Speeding to DUIs. Attorney Brown then went to work for the DeKalb County Public Defender’s Office where she was assigned to the DeKalb County State Court. As an assistant public defender, Attorney Brown represented persons charged with misdemeanor offenses. In DeKalb, she handled numerous trials including DUIs, Battery/Assault Family Domestic Violence, and Public Indecency. After a brief stint in DeKalb, Attorney Brown began working for the Fulton County Public Defender’s Office where she represented persons charged with felony offenses.

In 2009, Attorney Brown received a Master’s in Business Administration from the Emory University Goizueta Business School with a concentration in Organization & Management. As a student at GBS, she interned with Bank of America. After graduation, Attorney Brown worked as a consultant for Bank of America.

At the Law Office of Shawanda Brown LLC, Attorney Brown specializes in Criminal Law, Family Law, Wills/Estate Planning and Debt Collections. Attorney Brown is also a Part-time Instructor at Georgia State University.
